Serving: Sharing Hope -thoughts from Pastor Keith Zeh about this Wednesday’s Lenten worship The summer break in studies had arrived in my first year at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. I couldn’t wait to head back home to Las Vegas, NV. So, I loaded up my car and hit the road in my old yellow Toyota Celica. Somewhere along the interstate going west in Nebraska the back rear tire blew out sending me swerving off the highway onto the edge of the shoulder. Stunned and worried sick, I sat there wondering what to do. After a while, a passing tow truck operator came along and saw my predicament. He fixed my tire right there on the spot. When I went to pay him, he refused payment and simply said he was “GLAD” he could help. As he got back in his tow truck, he wished me well. One could say that I was very lucky to have such a caring person come along who could help me. I would say I was not only lucky, but more than that, I was so blessed and touched by this man’s caring for me. There were no conditions on his gift of service to me. Yet his gift of service carried a hope for me. A hope for my safe return to my family! Our Wednesday midweek worship on March 22 will rediscover the hope we receive and share through serving and caring for others. We’ll learn once more about the churches of Macedonia “for during a severe ordeal of affliction their abundant joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.” (2 Corinthians 8:2)Join us for a lasagna meal (with coleslaw, garlic toast, and bars/cookies) at 5:00, followed by worship at the tables in the Fellowship Hall at 6:15 pm.
